1.3.0 beta1 uploaded to the beta branch
Hello everyone,

We've uploaded the first beta version of a new Planetbase update.

We've been playing with the UI layout quite a bit in Dawn of Man and wanted to move some of those changes over to Planetbase.

Additionally, we wanted to address some other common requests, like production limits for each bot type, easier access to alerts and clearer display of resources.

Mac computers are deprecating 32 bit apps soon, and we also wanted to address that.

We will leave this in the beta branch for a while to get feedback from people, and will move over to the main branch when we are happy with it.

Full feature list

* Bioplastic, Metal and Semiconductor resource counts now reflect the free amounts by default (not the total amounts).

* New improved UI layout
  • Main menu is now at the center bottom of the screen
  • General panel and resources panel are now always visible
  • Context menu is displayed on top of selection panel
  • Removed build menu, build external and build internal are now top level menus
  • Moved tutorial instructions to the upper part of the screen

* Added production limits for the different types of bots

* Streamlined charts window
  • Only important charts are shown by default
  • There is a "more" button that shows all charts

* Added keyboard shortcuts for alert modes

* MAC build is now 64bit, as 32bit apps are going to be deprecated soon

How to get it

In the Steam library right click on Planetbase > Properties > Betas > Select "Beta Branch", then update the game normally.
You should see "1.3.0- beta1" on the right bottom corner in the title screen.

Feedback

Let us know what you think and if you found any issues with this.

Martino.

Wow, thanks for these new features! I guess it's time to install Planetbase again!

Could you please fix the buggy A.I.

I had a base of 200 and suddenly they stopped fixing solar and wind although I had over 20 free spares. Ive had entire bases starve to death enven with enough food to have fed an entire city.

Its a fantastic game but these just cannot be overlooked when I can hardly get over a couple hundred colonists without encountering a bug that destroys the entire base.

Do you have a savegame you can share?
Plz share this in another thread and we will have a look at it, but 99% of the times people complain about this kind of stuff it is because their base is not setup properly.

The new menus are definitely an improvement.

Here's a small feature I would really like to see.

In domes like the Dorm, where modules are placed around the edges and you need perfect placement to get the maximum number, make it so that the module you're placing will snap to the edge of a doorway or previously placed module.

Epic. It's really awesome you are still supporting this game. I personally love it and the setting. I'd just like to see it get some more depth, or a new 2.0 game.

Thank you for the update, I'm really glad to hear news about this game.
Also I'll would love to see in the future some features that would let you set the starting crew of a new colony so I can decide if I want to play it as a hard run or maybe just casual (and/or let you save some previous locations that I enjoyed playing but took a while to find again).

I have found that there isn’t enough room to properly display 4 digits worth of items in the new panel.

I second this suggestion. Having to perfectly line up the beds to fit the maximum number in is a time consuming annoyance I could do without :)

Thank you everyone for your feedback and bug reports, this really makes our life a lot easier as we are super busy and it's hard to test everything in detail.

I've uploaded beta2 now, this includes:

- Fixed issue with charts window not remembering selection.
- Added more space in the resource counters panel. (smatsuro could you check your issue is fixed? I couldn't reproduce at 1920x1080, what res did you use?).
- Added a bit of snap when placing components in circular domes.
- Fixed positioning of toasts when the main menu has several rows.

Any feedback woudl be extremely useful!

Thanks.

Thank you. The update did fix it for me though the numbers seem a little “tight” in-between the symbols. My res is running at 1680x1050.

Thanks for these tweaks, another improvement :)

I really am psyched that this game is once again in development (to a degree at least). It has such great potential, it just needs a bit more content in the late game once you've got a stable colony of 100+ colonists. Some more advanced domes (cinema, garden, shop[s], incinerator [to dump unwanted items, etc), perhaps auto red alert triggering when intruders are detected on camera. Yellow alert triggering when disasters approaching and are detected. Perhaps sandstorms can erode domes and connectors causing O2 leaks. Etc.

Another idea, how about being able to set construction limits for all resources too, but perhaps only by having a "Production Controller" console inside your colony's control centre?

Love the updates! The snap idea and addition in circular domes is something this game needed for a long time. Glad it was addressed so quickly.

One minor suggestion I would like to see added is maybe a building count or even just a bed count? When my colony gets to a certain size, I have to go count dorms to make sure I have enough beds to keep everyone happy. Other than that, keep those updates coming! I would definitely love to see more content in this game for sure, it's always been a favorite but I run out of things to do.

If you are willing to add more assets to the game, maybe a blueprint for a fusion reactor would be cool. but that would result in having to add in radiation to the game. which means, you could have a planet with rad storms.

But that's just me
