“I was first introduced to Words With Friends through my son’s Facebook. He was playing against friends and I noticed was doing it pretty half-a$$ed, playing two letter words when there were better/bigger scoring options. I played against his friends (as him) and mostly winning, but he wasn’t happy that I was using his phone all the time 😂. He told me about the app and I quickly became hooked. Tom in Alabama, USA, is also into high average word scores, so when I popped up as a random suggestion, he liked that my average was the same as his and he sent me a challenge. That was on my 50th birthday - but he didn’t know it then. I often say that ‘he’ is my best birthday present ever! It was the start of a conversation which quickly turned into us FaceTiming and chatting for up to four hours a day. We knew there was something special going on and when Tom said he was coming to Australia to meet and spend Christmas with me and my family, it just felt right. And our instincts proved correct. Tom spent a week in Brisbane then flew me back to Hawaii to spend time with him and meet his Mum and sister. We were headed to Panama City Beach for a weekend away (with two of my boys and Tom’s grandson) and passing through the little township of Slocomb, AL, when I spotted a light aircraft towing a banner. Tom quickly pulled into a car park and said to me ‘What does it say?’ before jumping out of the car and rushing around my side and dropping to bended knee. It said ‘Marry Me Kezza’ 🙂 We both feel we’ve waited our whole lives to be together. When I created a Facebook album with wedding pics the other day, someone commented ‘Did you ever in your wildest dreams think ...’ And the truth is, YES, I always did believe that something like this - the love and the adventure - was waiting for me. I just didn’t know it would take a little ol’ app and 9,000 miles to bring me to the love of my life.” – Kerry & Tom W.

"We started playing in 2010. My friend lives in California and I live in Illinois. We began to chat a lot when my mom was dying in the nursing home in Massachusetts. There was a 3-hour time difference, so Trine, my Words friend would play through the night as I sat by my mom. One day, while chatting back and forth she told me that she and her husband were coming to Chicago and would come visit me. Well, sure enough, they came down from Chicago by train to meet me. We had a wonderful time, went out to eat. Two years later, her daughter organized a surprise 60th birthday party and invited me to go, which I did. What a grand time we had out in San Diego.
